Turn off the television! Nothing will sap your precious time and divert your goals more than this horrible box. In fact, here are some scary statistics for you:
The average home now has more television sets than people, at 2.73 TV sets in the typical home and only 2.55 people.
The average person watches four hours, 35 minutes of television each day.
In the average home, a television set is turned on for more than a third of the day — eight hours, 14 minutes (if you consider 8 hours sleep, and 8 hours work, this statistic is even more disturbing!)
This doesn't even count the hours spent on the computer, or surfing the internet!
Studies have shown that successful people watch television on average less than 3 hours per week. The same studies report that unsuccessful people (those living on below average wages and those in broken homes) watch more than 20 hours per week of television.
If you want to be successful in your life you must not be drawn in to the television. Remove it as a dominate form of your leisure time. It will divert you from your goals and set new ones for you and your family (especially the kids).
Try removing the television from your living room for 6 weeks. Move it to a different room. Don’t leave it where it can be easily turned on. At the very minimum move it away from the dining table and the bedrooms.
Yes, you will miss the news and your favorite sitcom, but how much does that really matter? Use the time to spend it on yourself (physical training perhaps?) and spending quality time with your loved ones. It may be difficult at first, but with practice, it will become easier and even enjoyable.
I guarantee that everything in your life will improve, your relationships will become stronger, your income will increase and you will achieve your own goals rather that watching them slip away.
